From the Chief’s Desk:
Welcome to the River Vale Volunteer Fire Department’s website. On January 1st 2009, I was honored to be sworn in as the 71th Chief of The River Vale Fire Department. This department has a proud and illustrious past, which was forged and built up by our volunteer predecessors. Our fire department is in its 86th year and is a highly trained, deeply dedicated team of men and women from within our community. The River Vale Fire Department is a member of the Pascack Valley Fire Association. This association consists of the eight towns in the Pascack Valley area. They are: River Vale, Emerson, Hillsdale, Old Tappan, Park Ridge, Westwood, Woodcliff Lake and Washington Township. We have monthly drills with these towns on various types of fire fighting techniques, so that we may help each other if a serious emergency arises.
During the course of the year we are involved in more than just fighting fires. This past September we had a triple wet down to dedicate our new fire engine, North Fire House, and chief’s car. All those members of our town and neighboring fire departments were invited. We sponsor a circus in the fall and we have our open house in October for Fire Prevention Week. During that week we visit the two grammar schools in River Vale and do a demonstration for all the kindergarten classes. Our forty-plus active members are available 24 hours a day for 365 days a year. Our Ladies Auxiliary is available to serve food and drinks to our volunteer fire fighters during fires and other emergencies on a 24-hour basis, also. Our junior members (16-18yrs old) learn, train, and assist us, as well as, our cadet members (13-16 years old). Both these groups ensure that the River Vale Volunteer Fire Department has a strong future with these young people working up to possibly becoming full members of the department. I hope you enjoy our website.
